Micropump | Precision Gear Pumps for Low-Flow Industrial Applications

That relationship allows for predictable, repeatable control when paired with the right motor and drive.

 

In practice, this means the pump will maintain flow even as system pressure changes, within its operating limits. That is important in dosing and metering applications where pressure fluctuations are common, and flow consistency is required.

 

This type of performance is typically used in:

  • Recirculation loops with controlled flow rates

The design is not intended for high-flow transfer. It is used where control and consistency take priority.

Magnetic Coupling and Sealed Pump Construction

Micropump uses a magnetically coupled drive to isolate the motor from the wetted components. Torque is transmitted through a containment shell using an outer drive magnet and an inner driven magnet attached to the gear set.

 

There is no shaft penetration into the pump cavity, so there is no need for a dynamic seal. From an engineering standpoint, this removes a common leak path and a common maintenance item. It also simplifies the system by eliminating seal-support requirements, such as flush plans or barrier fluids.

 

This configuration is typically used when:

  • The fluid cannot be exposed to the environment 
  • External leakage is not acceptable 
  • Fluid purity needs to be maintained 
  • Maintenance access is limited or undesirable 

 

It is not about eliminating seals as a concept. It is about removing the failure modes associated with them in small, controlled-flow systems.

Materials and Fluid Compatibility

Micropump gear pumps are available in a range of materials to match fluid chemistry and operating conditions. Material selection depends on the application, particularly when dealing with aggressive chemicals or high-purity fluids.

 

Common configurations include stainless steel and engineered materials for corrosion resistance and cleanability. The internal components are designed to maintain tight tolerances, which is necessary for consistent displacement and flow accuracy.

Because of the small clearances inherent to gear pumps, fluid cleanliness and viscosity need to be considered during selection. These pumps are best suited for clean fluids or systems where filtration is already in place.

Typical Applications

Micropump systems are used in applications where flow-rate control is integral to the process, not just fluid transfer.

 

Common use cases include chemical dosing, laboratory and analytical equipment, medical and diagnostic devices, and fluid delivery systems in electronics and semiconductor manufacturing.

 

They are also used in OEM systems, where the pump is integrated into a larger piece of equipment and must operate reliably without frequent service.

 

In these environments, the pump is not just moving fluid. It is part of the process control.
